3 hour duration 3 miles round trip
Moderate to strenuous for most fitness levels.
The tour starts in the quaint town of Silver Plume. You will zig-zag up the mountain on the old 7:30 Mine Road with the mountainside above dotted with mines. Explore remnants of cabins, cables, and ore carts. Your view of the breath taking Continental Divide gets better as the town nestled below gets smaller. We will arrive at the top of a cliff overlooking a small waterfall. A tall granite obelisk on the edge of the cliff marks the burial site of Clifford Griffin, brother of the mine’s owner. Historical writings say the ethereal sounds of his violin could be heard on still evenings down in town. Local legend says the obelisk marks the site of one of Silver Plume’s great mysteries.
