Snowshoeing in the backcountry near Denver on a beautiful wintery day.

SNOWSHOEING AND WINTER TOURS

Snowshoe in the backcountry near Denver

Colorado trails have a beautiful and different character in winter, and snowshoeing is the perfect way to experience them! Snowshoeing is great exercise and allows you to enjoy the peace and beauty of the winter wonderland away from the crowded ski slopes.   Snowshoes distribute your weight over a larger area and keep your feet from sinking too deeply into the snow. They also have cleats that provide traction and prevent you from slipping and falling.

Because snowshoes are meant to float and support you in fluffy snow, they are not necessary on firm-packed snow. For that reason, snow and trail conditions will dictate whether we use snowshoes or hike on your scheduled tour. If hiking on firm-packed snow, we’ll use Spikes & poles instead of snowshoes.  When you book a snowshoe or winter tour I will choose the trail and equipment that is appropriate for the day. This flexibility is required because of the changing storm cycles, wind, and cold temperatures.  Warm ski clothing and winter boots are necessary for your comfort, safety, and enjoyment of the forests in winter.

Snowshoe tours are available in winter months subject to weather and trail conditions. Generally, snow conditions are adequate from late November through March.
